Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: Mannheim Steamroller Christmas

Former jingle writer Chip Davis is one half of the creative team who dreamed up CW McCall, the fictional truckdriver immortalized in the country hit “Convoy.” Using the cash he earned during the CB radio craze of 1975, McCall founded American Gramaphone as a vehicle for his collaborations with keyboardist Jackson Berkey. Under the alias Mannheim Steamroller, Davis released a series of albums exploring the seasons in a jazzy Baroque sensibility that helped define the new age genre. Since 1984, the project has championed Christmas music with fanciful releases that put a contemporary spin on holiday classics. Expect to hear electronically driven reworkings of “Joy to the World,” “Winter Wonderland,” and others set to "dazzling multimedia effects" when the touring production of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas lights up the Majestic. $45-$75; 7pm Sun, Dec 30; The Majestic Theatre, 224 E Houston, (210) 226-3333, Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here:
