Café de los Maestros (directed by Miguel Kohan) Free 7pm Fri, Jan 25 Viernes, 25 de Enero Instituto Cultural de México 600 Hemisfair Plaza Way Two-time Oscar-winning composer/producer Gustavo Santaolalla (Babel, Brokeback Mountain) reunited all the living icons of the Golden Age of tango for Café de los Maestros (2005), a labor of love that produced both a two-time Latin Grammy-winning album and a documentary. With melancholic nostalgia, the film - featuring appearances by musicians, orchestra leaders, and singers such as Mariano Mores, Leopoldo Federico, Ernesto Baffa, Atilio Stampone, Emilio Balcarce, José Libertella, Virginia Luque (pictured below), Alberto Podestá, Nelly Omar, and Lágrima Ríos - evokes the bittersweet glamour of a time long gone, whose witnesses are gradually disappearing. Directed by Miguel Kohan and produced by Santaolalla along with Lita Stantic and Walter Salles, the documentary screens January 25 only at the Instituto Cultural de México with a reception to follow.
