what made milwaukee famous

Named after an ode to Schlitz made famous by Jerry Lee Lewis, Austin-based indie-rock outfit What Made Milwaukee Famous knows it takes time to get things right. Upon joining forces, original members Michael Kingcaid, John Farmer, and Jason Davis got acquainted for a year before going public in 2003 and spent five years perfecting their new album You Can’t Fall Off the Floor. Debuting with Trying to Never Catch Up, the band made waves as one of the first unsigned acts to perform on the PBS series Austin City Limits — alongside Scotland’s Franz Ferdinand. Channeling an array of influences (from Jeff Buckley to Fugazi) into what Billboard once described as “elegant pop,” WMMF have shared stages with Arcade Fire and The Black Keys and played major festivals including SXSW, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza. $9-$12; 9pm Sat, Feb 2; Sam's Burger Joint, 330 E Grayson, (210) 223-2830, samsburgerjoint.com.
