Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: KMFDM

Posted on Thu, Mar 14, 2013 at 9:00 AM

KMFDM-057

What began as an “art-terrorist” project evolved into an industrial force named after a phrase drawn from a hat. Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid roughly translates to “No Majority for the Pity” but seeped into pop culture as “No Pity for the Majority.” After causing a ruckus in Paris in 1984 with a concert employing a quartet of Polish coalminers and an amplified vacuum cleaner, multi-instrumentalist Sascha Konietzko took KMFDM home to Hamburg and built it into a performance-driven troupe that exploded TVs, swallowed fire, and threw animal guts on crowds to the tune of computerized samples, distorted vocals, and mangled metallic riffs. A string of classic albums made the outfit icons of the bygone Chicago imprint Wax Trax! in the 1990s. Konietzko and his misfits land at Backstage Live in support of 2011’s WTF?! $21-$25, doors at 7pm Thursday, Backstage Live, 1305 E Houston, (210) 698-2856, frontgatetickets.com.
