Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: The Shins

It’s been nine years since Natalie Portman’s adorably zany character in Garden State insisted that The Shins could change your life. Since that movie and their subsequent surge in popularity, The Shins have released two very good albums and taken one five-year hiatus – during which lead man James Mercer teamed with Danger Mouse on the superb Broken Bells project. Still supporting the year-old Port of Morrow LP, but presumably with new stuff cooking, The Shins represent one of the most high-profile shows at the Rabbit in recent memory. You can expect a packed house for the seminal indie band and a performance that spans their career and shows off what a sophisticated, self-aware outfit they’ve become. Get there early if you want to be close enough to tell if Mercer is still sporting his trademark beard. $64-100, 7pm Tuesday, The White Rabbit, 2410 N St. Mary’s, (210) 737-2221, stubhub.com.
