Franco-Mondini-Ruiz

Taking Contemporary Art Month out with a bang, SA art bad boy Franco Mondini-Ruiz is presenting a four-day art extravaganza at his compound on the West Side that will inaugurate three new venues. Casa Leal Botanica is a reincarnation of his famed Southtown art menagerie that delighted a disparate but savvy crowd at the turn of the millennium, a long-term social sculpture that led to Mondini-Ruiz receiving the Rome Prize and being selected for the Whitney Biennial. This time, the menagerie is literal, with peacocks, goats and other creatures living amidst the eclectic mix of art and happenstance. Also opening is his West Side Museum of Antiquities and Crema gallery, and for good measure, an Organic Garden featuring sculptures made with parts from a “centuries-old Parisian pipe organ.” The “world’s laziest” Easter egg hunt begins Thursday and extends through the weekend, with prizes ranging from small trinkets to a $7,000 painting; Friday guests will be treated to classical music by a string quartet; Saturday will feature a Tea Dance replete with disco ball and a guest DJ. On Easter Sunday the garden grounds and casitas will become an “In-law Escape Oasis” for those weary of the extended family-filled weekend. Food, drink, and mayhem will be served daily.  Suggested attire: urban farm chic. Free; 11am-7pm Thursday-Sunday, 2710 Leal, (210) 833-4042, contemporaryartmonth.com.
