On Saturday, August 16, Cuban film curator Juan Grillo will screen a series of short sociopolitical films that were produced at Cuba's prestigious Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV (International School of Film and TV), located at San Antonio de los Baños. Co-founded in 1986 as a subsidiary of the New Latin American Cinema Foundation by Nobel Prize-winning writer Gabriel García Márquez, the so-called Escuela de Tres Mundos (School of Three Worlds) has taught cinema and other artistic disciplines to people from Latin America, Africa and Asia.

At 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center (922 San Pedro) will be screening the EICTV shorts No porque lo diga Fidel Castro, Sanos y Sanitarios, Solos y Soledades, Yo Dual, Atlántico, La Tarea and Oda a la Piña, followed by a Q & A session with Juan Grillo. Some of the films will have English subtitles, and there will be two on-site translators and enough headsets for those who can't speak Spanish). The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be sold. Call (210) 228-0201 for more information.
