Wonderland of the Americas continues their “free movie screening on Thursday night” tradition throughout October, and Halloween is no exception. This month’s feature films have grown increasingly creepier as the month progresses. Beginning with the Amityville Horror and moving up to The Sixth Sense and Silence of the Lambs, Wonderland of the Americas is set to end with The Shining on Halloween night. Kick off your Halloween festivities with a creepy film to get in the Halloween spirit. Admission is free, but tickets go fast.

2.) Halloween at the McNay

Celebrate Halloween with the Mcnay Art Museum for a guaranteed night of spooky fun. 15-minute tours of the Nightmare Before Christmas will be given within the first hour. 3. Board Game Night at the Parman Library

4.) Angela Fox: "Cribs and Crews" Art Opening

San Antonio native, Angela Fox, premieres her warm and colorful exhibit entitled “ Cribs and Crews” on Halloween night at Hello Studio art gallery in the Blue Star Art Complex. Her signature, nomadic-like paintings are unique in the vibrant color pallet she often works with. Her drawings and prints give a “fiesta-like” feel to a nomadic environment that we can’t help but love.

5.)Dia de los Muertos Festivities
Friday, Nov. 1, 6:00- 9:00 p.m.
Into music, performances, readings, food, and more? The Esperanza Peace and Justice Center will celebrate Dia de Los Muertos at the Riconcito de Esperanza (816 Colorado St.) on Friday, November 1st. Calavera readings about political favorites such as Wendy Davis, George Zimmerman, Ted Cruz, and Rosie Castro will commence throughout the festivities. Guests are invited to visit and admire the alters set up by community members of their loved ones while enjoying complimentary hot chocolate and pan de los muertos. Art work from the MujerArtes Clay Cooperative will also be available for visitors to purchase and use on their own home alters.

6.) Cobra Smiles at the Mix

Cobra smiles is a San Antonio/ Austin based duo that has been said to sound similar to The Stooges and New York Dolls. Their glam/goth sound is inappropriate for children, but quite entertaining for adults with a keen ear for hard rock. Singer Hans Frank and rock-mate Buck Fever, perform at the Mix for their last San Antonio show before their upcoming album release in summer 2014.

“ Pray for the dead and fight like hell for the living,” is Planet K’s slogan for their annual Texas Fireworks Celebration taking place in Austin and San Antonio. We think the sayings pretty spot on. The Dia De Los Muertos celebration will take place at Woodlawn Lake Park with a car parade and family activities beginning at 6:00 p.m. End your night with a bang (literally), as Planet K puts on a spectacular fireworks show over Woodlawn Lake to commemorate the dead and fight for the living.

If you can’t get enough Dia de Los Muertos festivities this week, here’s another event you’ll just have to attend. Celebrate and remember the dead in the Historic Market Square the first weekend of November. Expect performances by Erica Gonzaba, the Michael Jackson Dance Group, Stefani Montiel, and much more.
