With a 95-93 win over the Pacers last night, Gregg Popovich posted his 1000th win as an NBA head coach. In signaturely curt style, Pop commented on the feat  in a post-game press conference. "I've been here a long time and I've had good players. That's the formula. Getting the players is difficult, but I've been fortunate to have good ones. The time — that's the most important element. You have to be around for awhile. It's more a tribute to [the players] obviously than any coaches."

Around as head coach since 1996, Pop holds a few more impressive accolades, including the most consecutive winning seasons (17), the most NBA wins since 1997 and the longest tenure of any active NBA coach (for a full list of feats, ESPN published a fabulous interactive feature on Pop's career). With five Finals rings on his fingers, Popovich trails just Red Auerbach and Phil Jackson for most championships won.

With his 1000th win on Monday, Popovich joins Don Nelson (Bucks, Warriors), Lenny Wilkins (SuperSonics), Jerry Sloan (Jazz), Pat Riley (Lakers, Knicks, Heat), Phil Jackson (Bulls, Lakers), George Karl (Sonics, Nuggets), Larry Brown (Pistons) and Rick Adelman (Blazers, Kings) as coaches to pass the four-figure mark for wins.
