David Kennard grants his viewers a sneak peek behind cellar doors with A Year in Champagne.

Kennard’s documentary is the second of a winemaking trilogy with A Year in Burgundy being the series’ first film. “A Year in Champagne” follows wine importer Martine Saunier around the region and highlights several small companies that specialize in sparkling wine as well as a few bigger brands like Gosset and Bollinger.

The film artfully juxtaposes war and tragedy in France with the celebratory aspect of Champagne. Viewers of the limited-release documentary are given the chance to witness the effort that goes into making the green-glassed bottles of bacchanal bubbly, and to see the faces of families responsible for making celebrations around the world so sweet and fizzy.

“A Year in Champagne” will be shown at Alamo Drafthouse Park North on Tuesday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m.
