An award-winning journalist who wrote hard-hitting stories about hydraulic fracturing – commonly known as fracking – and havoc the process wreaks on the environment will be featured in a panel dubbed dubbed “Running (Out of) Water” at the upcoming San Antonio Book Festival.

Seamus McGraw is the author of The End of Country: Dispatches from the Frack Zone, a novel exploring his personal experience in Susquehanna County in northeastern Pennsylvania — where a trillion-dollar natural gas deposit called the Marcellus Shale and the developers with dollar signs in their eyes have forever changed the landscape of this quiet area of the country.

He will speak about his latest book, Betting the Farm on a Drought, during the panel discussion.

McGraw’s work has appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times, Reader’s Digest and the Huffington Post.

McGraw will be joined by Kenna Lang Archer, an instructor at Angelo State University, author of the book Unruly Waters: A Social and Environmental History of the Brazos River, and Robert L. Gulley, author of Heads Above Water: The Inside Story of the Edwards Aquifer Recovery Implementation Program.

The authors will discuss the ongoing drought that has scorched its way across the country in recent years.

David Ladensohn, founder of the Water Fund, an organization that invests in western water rights and global water securities, will moderate the discussion.

The panel will be on the third floor of the Central Library, 600 Soledad, in the West Terrace on April 11 from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.

Following the one-hour panel, McGraw, Archer and Gulley will be available for book signings in the Chihuly Atrium on the second floor of the library.
