In early July, the Blue Star Arts Complex announced a partnership to re-launch The Upstairs Studios.

Amada Miller, founder of Hello Studio, an artist-run galley at Blue Star, and Taylor Browning, former co-director of Up Collective in Austin and the associate curator of education at Artpace, will co-direct the studio.

"The Blue Star Arts Complex has long been a hub for artists and home to many of San Antonio's most vibrant artist-run spaces. Creative partnerships such as these are successful, because artists are at the center," Mary Heathcott, Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum says in a press release. "I know Taylor and Amada will contribute to the dynamic environment of the Complex, and I look forward to having a front seat as their neighbor at Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum."

Browning and Miller are charged with "improving and maintaining the vision and functionality of The Upstairs Studios public exhibition space," which includes strengthened public interaction coupled with "a more communal, supportive environment" that has an identifiable presence in San Antonio's artistic community.

“Taylor and Amada will help us create, maintain, and market The Upstairs Studios as a branded destination, active with working artists, frequent exhibitions, and quarterly workshops. They collectively bring energy and talent ideal to execute and manage the improved vision of The Upstairs Studios,” James Lifshutz, Blue Star Arts Complex owner, says in a press release.
