If you plan on submitting an entry to the City of San Antonio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission inaugural art contest, you'd better finish that project up because deadline (Friday, November 6 at 5 p.m.) is quickly approaching.

The commission will select a local artist's work, which will be used as the visual representation of the 2016 commemoration theme: "King Week: Uniting Communities to Advance Humanity."

“San Antonio is home to one of the nation’s largest commemorations honoring Dr. King, and utilizing the work of a local artist for our annual commemoration is a great addition to the city’s official events,” Brandon Logan, chair of the San Antonio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, says in a press release. “This 2016 theme, ‘King Week: Uniting Communities to Advance Humanity,’ is in the spirit of Dr. King’s principles and the artwork contest is a fitting way to visually represent and pay homage to Dr. King.”

The contest is open to Bexar County residents and student artists are encouraged to submit pieces. A panel of community judges will choose the selected artist, who will receive recognition for creating the official 2016 commemoration artwork, along with two all-access passes to all of the official 2016 commission events.
