Launched by Tokyo-based architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham in 2003 and now a global phenomenon practiced in 900-plus cities, PechaKucha (Japanese for “chit chat”) follows a simple premise: creative professionals show 20 slides for 20 seconds each during presentations lasting six minutes and 40 seconds. Active since 2011, the local chapter returns to the Empire Theatre for its 23rd program, presented in partnership with the Las Casas Foundation. Emceed by Emmy-winning news anchor Randy Beamer, the enlightening evening shines a light on the endeavors of poet Barbara Ras, auctioneer Robert Vogt, “birth guy” Brian Salmon, urban farmer Lorie Solis, “yogipreneur” Kristal Cuevas, musician Kory Cook, chef Zach Garza and visual artist Jeremiah Teutsch. $5 suggested donation, happy hour with small bites and cash bar at 6:30pm, presentations at 7:30pm, Charline McCombs Empire Theatre, 226 N. St. Mary’s St., (210) 226-3333,
