Run by artist/art historian Stephanie Torres, Provenance Gallery really knocked it out of the park in 2016, with exhibition after exhibition that showcased some truly exciting artists from San Antonio and beyond. The gallery’s first show of the year, a solo exhibit of striking digital works from artist ACIDWINZIP, seems to indicate a 2017 that will be just as good or better. ACIDWINZIP, the project of artist Ursula Zavala, creates works that are “inspired by nostalgia, internet culture, religion and art history, and are comprised of computer-generated images and other elements, cut and pasted onto a digital canvas.” Remarkable for its psychedelic fusion of the familiar trappings of the internet age with stylistic elements and motifs culled from art’s more formal past, ACIDWINZIP’s work is a commentary and a call to conversation. It also, we might add without being the least bit hyperbolic, is an ideal example of a new kind of art for a brand new world. Free, 7-10pm Sat, Provenance Gallery, 1906 S. Flores St., (210) 216-8362, — JC
