It’s rare for a band from the glory days of MTV to still be recording and touring with its core lineup intact. Save for a few early switch-ups, that’s reality for The Fixx — an admittedly introspective five-piece comprised of vocalist Cy Curnin, drummer Adam Woods, keyboardist Rupert Greenall, guitarist Jamie West-Oram and bassist Dan K. Brown. Formed in London in 1979 and briefly known as Portraits, the group infused melancholic themes (emptiness, nuclear fallout and other universal woes) into stylish and catchy new-wave gems like “Stand or Fall,” “One Things Leads to Another,” “Saved By Zero” and “Red Skies.” Released in 2012, their 10th studio album Beautiful Friction balances hopeful messages and “frustrations with the current socio-economic crises affecting the world.” A rare treat for ’80s enthusiasts, the enduring British outfit ands in the intimate confines of Sam’s with support from San Antonio-based singer-songwriter Jeff Glatz.
