Through sculpture, costumes and video installations, artist Jared Theis brings to life utopian landscapes inhabited by colorful, tentacled creatures. Playing the role of his imaginative characters, Theis examines subconscious states of being and various storylines rooted in childhood memories that allow him to reconnect with a distant past. Here, subtly erotic and menacing undertones threaten to overtake the artist’s fantastical and childlike settings. On Saturday, Clamplight Artist Studios & Gallery will present Under the Sparkle Sunshine, an exhibition of new work by Theis as part of the 11th annual On & Off Fredericksburg Road Studio Tour. A 2012 MFA graduate of the University of California–Davis, Theis continues his exploration of personal mythologies within his work that first led to a three-month residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin in 2017. Free, opening reception 6-9pm Sat, Feb. 17, Clamp Light Studios & Gallery, 1704 Blanco Road, (832) 259-3530,
