Since 1958, the San Antonio Folk Dance Festival has served as a showcase for performing arts groups in and around the Alamo City. Founded by Nelda Guerrero Drury, the festival returns in its 60th year with four days of workshops, a Hawaiian luau and two concerts on the grounds of Our Lady of the Lake University.

This is a landmark year for the festival as Guerrero Drury celebrates her 100th birthday. A former international dance instructor at San Antonio College and a 2010 inductee into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame, Guerrero Drury is a pivotal figure within the local arts community. As an official Tricentennial partner event, Friday night’s concert will focus on San Antonio’s Hispanic heritage through performances by Ballet Folklórico South Texas College, Flamenco Arts Society of San Antonio (featuring the renowned Champion family) and the pre-professional dance troupes Alamotion and Fandango. Saturday night’s concert promises a more international flair with performances by Gazelle Turkish Folk Dance Group and Csárdás Hungarian Dancers, among others. $10-$120, dance workshops Thu March 15-Sun March 18, International Folk Culture Center; concerts 8pm Fri, 7:30pm Sat, Thiry Auditorium, Our Lady of the Lake University, 411 SW 24th St., (210) 434-6711, safdf.org.
