If you haven’t taken the time to experience the four “Common Currents” exhibitions that have already opened this year, you’re missing out on some of the more memorable artistic highlights of the Tricentennial.

Billed as a “crowd-sourced collaborative visual and performing arts exhibition,” the series unites six venues (Artpace, Blue Star Contemporary, Southwest School of Art, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, the Carver Community Cultural Center and the Mexican Cultural Institute) and nearly 300 artists, each of whom was given a specific year in San Antonio history to use as creative inspiration. Giving the project an unpredictable charm, nearly every artist was invited into the fold by fellow participants in a “chain letter-inspired” format.

With 1718-1917 already in the bag, the Carver is set to unveil the penultimate piece of the puzzle. Promising eclectic interpretations of Alamo City life between 1918 and 1967, the group show brings together works by spoken-word artist/vocalist Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson (1927), painter/sculptor Rolando Briseño (1932), photographer Jorge Villareal (1940), multimedia artist Carmen Cartiness Johnson (1943), fashion designer Agosto Cuellar (1957) and more than 40 others.

Free, Thu March 15, 6-8pm, Carver Community Cultural Center, 226 N. Hackberry St., (210) 207-7211,
