In a statement posted on her website, Austrian-born ceramicist Verena Gaudy counts herself among “the first generation of schoolchildren to be taught about [her] country’s horrific involvement in the Third Reich.”

Born in 1975, living in San Antonio since 2015 and currently an MFA candidate at UTSA, Gaudy has drawn from the guilt she associates with her homeland to create conceptual works that explore human behavior and challenge the very concept of war. Often transforming the organic nature of clay in pointed arrangements addressing global conflicts and the plight of war refugees, her work takes center stage in “Of Bombs and Men,” a thesis exhibition addressing “humankind’s distinct potentials: creation and destruction.”

Free, 6-9pm Thu May 31-Fri Jun 1, FL!GHT Gallery, 134 Blue Star, (210) 872-2586, facebook.com/flightsa.
