Despite being traded from the San Antonio Spurs and landing in Toronto, the drama surrounding Kawhi Leonard continues.

Sports news outlets are reporting that longtime Spur Bruce Bowen, who retired from the NBA in 2009, is out of a job due to his comments about Leonard back in June.

Bowen was under contract with Fox Sports West as the TV game analyst for the Los Angeles Clippers, who "withheld approval" on renewing his contract after he made critical comments about Leonard.

"I think there's nothing but excuses going on," Bowen said during a June 21 segment with Sirius XM Radio. "First, it was, 'Well, I was misdiagnosed.' Look here: You got $18 million this year, and you think that they're trying to rush you? You didn't play for the most part a full season this year. And you're the go-to guy, you're the franchise, and you want to say that they didn't have your best interest at heart? Are you kidding me?"
ESPN reports that the move is a clear message that the organization will protect star players. Leonard, who remained mum throughout most of the telenovela, did voice his desire to return home to Los Angeles. While the Lakers were his first choice, the Clippers tried to acquire Leonard before he was ultimately traded to the Raptors. Per ESPN, the Clippers plan to be "aggressive suitors" for Leonard when he becomes a free agent next year.

"I think he's getting bad advice," Bowen told Sirius. "I think what you're starting to see now is an individual given a certain amount of advice, and it's not the right advice. Here it is: You were protected in San Antonio. You were able to come up during a time where you still could lean on Tim [Duncan], Tony [Parker] and Manu [Ginobili]."

Bowen, who previously worked as an NBA analyst for ESPN, declined comment on Monday.
