The folks over at Mixtli, the progressive kitchen found at The Yard in Olmos Park, have launched a crowd-sourcing campaign to fund a rooftop garden.

Owned and operated by Diego Galicia and Rico Torres, with wine help from Cecilia Barretto of Vinously Speaking Wine Shop (7271 Wurzbach, Ste 117), Mixtli offers seated eight-course dinners for 12 attendees, Wednesday through Saturday at $80 per person. The menu, sourced locally, changes every 45 days.

To help maintain the sustainable aspect of Mixtli (which means cloud in Nahuatl or Aztec), Galicia and Torres are hoping to set up the rooftop garden in order to grow herbs, micro-greens and some produce. The restaurant currently has 11 backers and 38 days to meet it's funding goal of $6,000.

A few more things of note on Mixtli:

  • Dinners are purchased through ticketing system.
  • A Dia De Los Muertos event is schedule for November 3 at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at $20.
  • Every month, the kitchen hosts a free family meal for 12 Wounded Warriors.
  • The Mixtli grant, gives back to farmers, ranchers and producers where the restaurant supplies ingredients.
