Scary good: White Russian Skull Jell-O shots

As far as I'm concerned, Halloween is my favorite holiday. It's almost as indulgent as Thanksgiving, but you don't have to spend it with a senile grandmother or a creepy uncle.

To celebrate, we scoured the internet in search of deliciously frightening shots to create this October 31. Since a smattering of venues around town are celebrating early, we're sharing this easy-to-make white Russian shot via

The hardest part was finding an adequate mold. Michael's was out, but AGS Cake Supplies on Park North came through with a silicone ice cube skull mold.

What you'll need:

3 oz. vodka3 oz. coffee liqueur6 oz. Milk1 envelope of Knox® unflavored gelatin1 skull ice cube mold

How to:

Pour vodka and coffee liqueur into a bowl or container. Sprinkle the gelatin over the liquors. Let it stand for about one minute. Boil the milk (we used the microwave) and pour it into the gelatin mixture. Mix well until the gelatin completely dissolves. Get an ice cube tray or gelatin mold that has the figures of skulls and bones. Spray the inside of the mold with a small amount of vegetable oil and remove  excess oil. Pour the mixture into the mold and place it in the refrigerator.

The shots were velvety and just sweet enough without being too boozy (but hey, play with the liquid ratios!).
