5 Things You Missed From Friday's "Muerte Por La Cerveza" Wrestling Event

Posted By on Sun, Dec 15, 2013 at 3:12 PM

One of San Antonio’s local promotions held its last event of 2013 on Friday, December 13 at Sideliners Grille.

For its ultimate main event of the year, the River City Wrestling incorporated the Grille’s alcoholic beverages into the fray for a sort of wrestling power hour. Every three minutes, match participants, and fans 21 and over, had to catch their breath and drink a cup of Sideliners draft beer.

The main event of River City Wrestling’s “Texas Explosion VIII” was a triple threat tag team title match for the tag team titles, as champions Total Nonstop Action Impact Wrestling superstar “Super Mex” Hernandez and Michael Faith defended their belts against The Hardbodies of Brandon Oliver and Joey Spector; and Rob Love and Howie The Ref. The championship match was contested under “Muerte Por La Cerveza” or “Beer Death” rules.

After fans emptied their pitchers and the combatants emptied their arsenal of maneuvers, the champions retained their titles.

Here are five things you missed from the event:

Honkey Kong, paying homage to popular gorilla character from the Nintendo franchise and wrestling legend “The Ugandan Giant” Kamala, team with fellow outdoorsman Koty Price to defeat the boisterous team of Kash Money and Mr. B.

In a battle of two RCW Champions, 11-year wrestling veteran Christian Valenz, RCW Heavyweight Champion, is attempting to take the young, flamboyant International Champion Sammy Guevara “to school.” Guevara would battle back to upend the veteran in a hard fought match-up.

"Super Mex” Hernandez ditched the Superman cape in favor of painting his chiseled physique silver as a nod to Silver Surfer.

Even Silver Surfer is not immune to having a cold alcoholic beverage.

After being on the losing end of the triple threat tag title match, a hangover isn’t the only thing Rob Love had to recover from.
