First Course Fodder: H-E-B TexFest, Tacos and Tequila, and Shrimp Boil

Tacos and Tequila (above) plans to make its way to Saytown this summer. And it’s as good as it sounds. Gulf shrimp cocktail, seared ahi tuna tacos, BBQ pulled pork burrito and breakfast tacos served all day are a few tastings from the Austin menu that may come to SA. So what’s one more place to get tacos and a ‘rita?

Houlihans (938 N Loop 1604 W) is adding lighter menu items each under 600 calories. Lighter menu items include lemon and herb grilled chicken, miso-grilled salmon, rice noodle salad with ginger-soy sirloin, key lime mouse and two skinny cocktails at 140 calories each.

In celebration of Texas independence, H-E-B is having a two-week TexFest with local food and cooking demonstrations. Stores statewide now through March 11 will showcase locally sourced items like Texas grapefruit, heritage sausage, wild gulf shrimp and pecan pie among other Lone Star State fare.

Flatcreek Estate Winery and Vineyard (24912 Singleton) will have their annual shrimp boil Saturday, March 22 at 4 p.m. Shrimp boil reservations are $30 per person with a glass of wine, 1/2 pound of shrimp, salad, bread and dessert. Zydeco group Zydeco Angels will also provide entertainment.
