The San Antonio Cocktail Conference officially starts with tonight's opening party at the Majestic Theatre, kicking off a whiskey-soaked weekend of seminars and soirées celebrating cocktail culture. (Find out how the conference has evolved this year and get a full schedule of events.)

A number of liquor brands are converging on San Antonio to peddle the hard stuff, and their arrival brings the Cocktail Conference off-shoot events that are worth checking out.

The Esquire Tavern is playing host this afternoon to Brooke Arthur & Travis Tober of Portland's House Spirits Distillery. If you are in the downtown area, you might want to call it an early day and head on over to enjoy live music and take advantage of their Aviation American Gin & Krogstadt Aquavit cocktails specials. 4 p.m. Thursday, Esquire Tavern, 155 E Commerce, (210) 222-2521, esquiretavern-sa.com.

Over in Southtown, the recently opened Concrete Jungle is teaming up Avuá Cachaça for a Cocktail Conference Launch happy hour to you pre-game for the opening party. To correspond to the 1950's Bossa Nova vibe, today's special menu features cachaça cocktails, made with spirits aged in Brazilian wood. 5 p.m. Thursday, Concrete Jungle, 1628 S Presa, (210) 373-9907.
