Update, June 4, 2015, 3:36 p.m.: Freetail will team up with El Folklor Bakery (multiple locations) for their "We're All Donuts" event on Saturday, June 13. The bakery carries strawberry, pineapple, lemon, bavarian cream and apple varieties of jelly donuts.

Free food alert!

National Doughnut Day is June 5, and these are some of the stores will be providing sweet deals for their customers.

For the Krispy Kreme locations, it couldn't be any easier to score some free doughnuts. All you have to do is show up. To celebrate the day, the chain will be giving out one free doughnut to each customer that comes in.

Another major chain partaking in the celebration is Dunkin' Donuts. While supplies last, the chain will be offering a free doughnut with the purchase of any beverage.

Also on board this year is Shipley's Do-nuts. Between 5 a.m. and 12 p.m. participating stores will be offering one free doughnut per customer.

If you want to steer clear of the crowds, do not forget about San Antonio's local doughnut shops where you can always find cheap doughnuts. You can stop by The Original Donut Shop or River City Donuts and support our local shops anytime.

Make sure to find a store near you June 5 to capitalize on free doughnuts and to commemorate your favorite dessert's special day, but if you miss the celebration don't be discouraged. On June 13, Freetail Brewing Company (2000 S. Presa St., 210-395-4974) will be hosting "We are all Donuts," starting at 10 a.m. The event will pair several different flavors of jelly doughnuts with kegs of the jelly-doughnut inspired Yo Soy Un Berliner. The keg is a nod to John F. Kennedy's infamous "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech in which he erroneously referred to himself as a jelly doughnut. Admission and doughnuts are free, and beer is only $4 per pint so plan to stop in if you miss National Doughnut Day or if you just want to keep the party going.
