On Sunday, March 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. chef Johnny Hernandez will host the seventh annual Paella Challenge on Pearl Brewery grounds (200 E. Grayson St.). Featuring an array of delicious food and wine from Spain, the event will also have traditional sangria as well as a variety of fabulous craft and imported beers with live entertainment to top it all off.

Spend the day tasting the Spain’s most famous dish that will be recreated by over 30 chefs including Jeff Balfour of Southerleigh, Steven McHugh of Cured and Jeff White of Boiler House as well as other chefs from across the country and Mexico in one heated competition. Tickets to the event will set you back $80 with minors getting in for $25. Get yours before they sell out at paellachallenge.com.

The Paella Challenge will give local and surrounding area high school students the opportunity to compete head-to-head in the H-E-B High School Paella Challenge with their interpretations of the dish.

“I am excited to be in our seventh year to date,” said Chef Johnny Hernandez, host of the Paella Challenge, in a press release. “We are proud to have raised over $300,000 towards education, but the one thing that continues to make the Paella Challenge so special is the overwhelming support received from the San Antonio chef community.”

Chef Johnny’s in his own competition at the moment with his restaurant, La Gloria, being featured in USA Today’s 10 Best “Your Favorite Airport Local/ Regional Dining” restaurant. He is competing against 14 other restaurants from American and Canadian airports. La Gloria currently stands in third place.
