3 Pop-Ups to Pencil in Your Food Calendar

What? You don't have a food calendar?

If you tire of fare offered at local eateries, or you're just looking for the next great bite, make sure to add these the list.

Gastronautica's Rick Cantu will host the second rendition of Lips Smack & Cheese inside J&O's Cantina (1014 S. Presa St., 210-990-4106) on Thursday, June 23 with the Come and Take It Mac ($8; smoked brisket and sliced pickled jalapeños over mac & cheese with a smoky barbecue sauce drizzle), the Japantastic ($7; nori and steamed edamame atop mac with kewpie and Sriracha drizzles), and El Mariachi ($9; chorizo, cumin, cilantro and cotija atop mac and cheese with a habanero salsa drizzle).

On Sunday, June 26, Halston Connella returns to Park Social (224 E. Olmos Drive, 210-822-0100)with Rebel Pizza from 7 p.m. to midnight. Last December, Connella's portable wood-burning oven was stolen and later found with severe structural damage. The cook, who is also one of the lead chefs at Brigid in Southtown, maintained the pop-up through Valentine's Day. As Brigid business picked up, Connella was forced to give up the pie-making. Until now. The menu is still in the works but expect inventive pies and drool-worthy pasta dishes.

This July 6, you can get your fill of vegan fare at La Botanica (2911 N. St. Mary's St., 210-716-0702) at the hands of Mama Tierra, which will host a second pop-up in the eatery. Expect an all-vegan menu of "fajita and al pastor" tacos, "picadillo" and vegicoa along with a new carNO guisada taco from cook Ale Tierra. You can get a cruelty-free dinner from 4 p.m. to midnight. 

Finally, keep an eye out on Sandwichserious, which hosted its second pop-up at Attagirl this past Monday. Let's just say the sangwish artisans are aiming a lot bigger for the next one.
