Green Beer or Jameson?: Where to Party this St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day is here. On a Friday. Our livers aren't ready. Grab a green T-shirt or socks, or what have you, and go drink some Guinny.

McFinnigan's Pub will host their annual block party from noon to 2 p.m. with Jameson shots, Irish Car Bombs (which are way more controversial than you may realize) and green beer. 7210 Blanco Road, (210) 314-4194.

Waxy O'Connor's, Durty Nelly's, and Mad Dog's will all partake in the Riverwalk's annual green-hued festival that includes dying the river, Murphy's Irish stout beer, bagpipers, and more. Festivities kick off at 1 p.m. and last through Saturday, March 18 through 9 p.m. San Antonio Riverwalk,

The Point Park & Eats celebrates both St. Patrick's Day and their fifth anniversary with $4 Deep Ellum on tap and $3 taps and bites available to purchase from Caliente Grill Food Truck, Slider Provider, Pho-U Vietnamese Cuisine, Cousins Maine Lobster, The Art of Donut, North Shore Tiki Hut. The party runs 3 to 11 p.m. 24188 Boerne Stage Road.

Freetail Brewing Co. will host a lamb roast (because the Lenten rules are lifted during St. Patrick's Day) by Joe Saenz of Swine House, a fundraising event with Spurs Jesus, and local vendors such as Happy Gut foods, Wildflower Co. caramels, Southern Grit sauce, Blue Star Provisions and medals from the Classic Theatre of San Antonio. Dorcol Distilling + Brewing Co. says no to green beer and you should, too. Try their new Irish red ale and pair it with cabrito tacos from chef John Russ. The party runs 5 p.m. to midnight. 1902 S. Flores St., (210) 229-0607.

Philly's Phamous Cheesesteaks and Lada Ladies will provide dinner for purchase as The Rose Bush celebrates this green-tinged day with Kermit-colored beer on the house and more. 5-10pm, 2301 San Pedro Ave., (210) 621-8908.

The Brass Monkey party will include $2 Bud Light, $2 Lone Star & $3 Malibu all evening, 80s jams and a money drop (because it's green, get it) at 1 a.m. The party starts at 10 p.m. 2702 N. St. Mary's St., (210) 480-422.

Head to the brewstillery for a night of music, a food truck, specials on single malt whiskey and a special nitro beer on tap from Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling. 5-9pm, 4834 Whirlwind Drive, (210) 775-2099.

Spurs Jesus will keep the party going at The St. Anthony Hotel rooftop with DJ Chacho. No cover. 9pm-2am, 300 E. Travis St.

Drink specials and food start at 11 a.m. at Blue Box. Stop in for corned beef and hash, Sheperd's Pie, stuffed pork tenderloin, soda bread and bacon coddle. Wash it down with Irish Old Fashioneds, Guinness, Irish Car Bombs and Jameson shots. 312 Pearl Pkwy., (210) 227-2583.

Bring your stamina to Sparky's Pub where the party will spillover on the Main Strip. Try the green beer, Irish Whiskey and famous bucket-sized cocktails. 9pm-2am, 1416 N. Main Ave., (210) 320-5111.

Over at The Pigpen, the Irish festivities include $3 bottles Alamo Beer and combo Jameson/Alamo for $6. The Rusty Razors perform from 6 to 9 p.m. 5pm-midnight, 106 Pershing Ave., (210) 267-9136.
