Chef Johnny Hernandez and his staff have been teasing us as of late with images of his upcoming Burgerteca
on the bottom floor of Big Tex Flats behind Blue Star. And San Antonians can get a taste for chef's Mexican-inspired burgers this Friday.
Burgerteca will host a pop-up in front of Blue Star with a small menu of sliders including Oaxaquena slider ($4) with Angus beef, mole negro, pickled onions, black beans, avocado and queso fresco on brioche bun and a vegetarian slider ($4) with house-made black bean patty with barley, roasted vegetables, sesame seed, jalapeño lime- mayo, sliced avocado, lettuce, tomato, pickled red onion on brioche bun.
Dessert means a Coconada ($3) with house-made coconut ice cream, fresh pineapple syrup, chamoy, toasted coconut flakes and chili powder. Drinks include limonada and horchata with strawberries.
The pop-up starts at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Burgerteca and sister concept Villa Rica were announced late last year, and will take up 6,400 square feet of the ground floor retail space of the apartment complex. This will be the fourth and fifth restaurant concept for Hernandez, who first opened La Gloria in 2010 and has gone on to replicate the eatery at the Dominion area, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and in several airports.
