The lesson is this: if you sell any Selena-proximate product, it will inspire temporary local madness and then sell out. Be it H-E-B shopping bags or beer, as in this case, it's gonna go.

Islla Street Brewing's first weekend of business was robust enough for owners J.D. and Joshua Peña to cancel their Sunday hours. They were out of beer. Typically, the taps will flow Thursday through Sunday.

The beers are "culturally rich small batch." Some of the brews are straightforward innovations, like a papaya hefeweizen. Makes sense. Some of the beers you'll just have to try, like a pineapple empanada IPA or a blonde ale with cumin and cantaloupe. For Selena, there is a Concha La Flor Stout. Like La Reina, the owners have that San Antonio-to-Corpus Christi vibe. The brewery is styled after their grandfather's home on Islla Street in Corpus.

The tasting room is the only place to get these brews for now, so go hang out. Maybe get the stories on the beer names. This weekend Islla Street is open only Saturday and Sunday. Peña says to expect their full retail rollout, Cumbia D.J., six beers on tap, sangria and a "whole lot more fun." The party goes until the beer runs dry.
