Now that Fiesta has ended, we can finally breathe a sigh of relief and enter downtown without being met with blocked streets and $20 turkey legs. During the 10-day extravaganza, I managed to steer clear of high-fat food, stumbling drunks, and cascarones, but I was ambushed by something else.
I first encountered it at the Southwest School of Art & Craft Fiesta Arts Fair, then I came across it again at the King William Fair: little-people art. Let me explain … imagine a normal-size doughnut and a little person attempting to climb it as if it were a mountain, snap a picture, and you have little-people art. Now, I was pretty upset because both times I spotted the works I didn’t catch the name of the artist(s).
Later that night I got my fix when I found
little-people.blogspot.com, a “tiny street art project — little hand painted people, left in London to fend for themselves.” I’m not sure if it was the same artist, but the local finds were done in the same vein.
I’m all about giving any art I come across a chance, and I hesitate calling little-people artwork lowbrow, but it’s not for everyone. It’s kitschy, but it’s fun — we recommend checking it out sometime.
