The Kawhi Leonard-San Antonio Spurs saga continues.
In the latest chisme, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Spurs held a players-only meeting, led by Tony Parker, to encourage Leonard to return to the basketball court this season.
According to Wojnarowski, the supposed meeting took place after the team's win against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday. A source told ESPN's Michael C. Wright that non-players were asked to leave the locker room.
The meeting, according to Wojnarowski, was "tense" and "emotional." Players were reportedly frustrated and confused about the "growing divide" between Leonard and the franchise. And to make the whole thing extra dramatic, sources say that "players' voices could be heard through the door."
Danny Green took to Twitter to, well, call bullshit.
Regardless of the extra drama, that much remains: Leonard still doesn't feel ready to come back. Despite reportedly impressing coaches and teammates in 3-on-3 and 4-on-4 workouts, keeping up with extensive rehabilitation (in San Antonio and at a New York facility) and predicting a return by the end of March, it doesn't seem like Leonard is suiting up any time soon.
Even Manu Ginobili doesn't think Leonard will return this season. On Wednesday, he told reporters that the team needs to keep playing as if Leonard isn't coming back.
"We fell for it a week ago again," Ginobili said. "But we have to think that he's not coming back, that we are who we are, and that we got to fight without him."
Patty Mills echoed that sentiment.
"We've got to move on. We're at a very important part of the season, and we need to attack this part of the season with everything we have and not have anything else weighing on us," Mills told reporters.
