LITERARY LOVE FEST

Sixty-seven writers from the United States, Mexico, Nicaragua, Chile, Cuba, and Puerto Rico will participate. José Rosario, Carmen Tafolla, and Sergio Ramírez are among a handful of writers giving pre-fair workshops exploring topics such as Songwriting in Spanish, Writing Stories for Children, and Writing Novels in Spanish.

During the days following the workshops there will be book signings and readings by other internationally recognized writers, including performance poet and producer of a New Orleans radio series on jazz, Kalamu ya Salaam; poet, publisher, educator, and Barton Springs activist, Susan Bright; spokesperson for the migrant experience and commentator/journalist, Ruben Martínez; Youth Outreach Counselor and addressee of issues on patriarchal violence, Carolina Monsivaís; American Indian Movement worker, writer, and bluesman, raúlrsalinas; and poet, novelist, journalist, and activist, Demetria Martínez — the only U.S. journalist to be prosecuted, by the sheaf of her own poem, for her involvement in the Sanctuary Movement.

This year's fair will also commemorate Max MartÍnez, whose grant proposals helped the GCAC gain national recognition. Mystery writers Rolando Hinojosa, Manuel Ramos, and Jay Brandon will honor his memory with selected readings. A schedule of events can be picked up at the GCAC.
