Saturday evening's performance of Hedwig and the Angry Inch was almost literally electrifying: a bright, loud, glam-rock fantasia on gender, desire and acceptance. Scaled up from its small, Off-Broadway roots, this explosive Hedwig stars a terrific Euan Morton as the titular male-to-female emigrée and Hannah Corneau as Hedwig's sidekick and husband.
Though Hedwig remains at its core an intimate show — it's mostly narrated by Hedwig herself — Michael Mayer's re-conceived version expands to fill even larger spaces like the Tobin, especially when abetted by the eye-popping projections of Benjamin Pearcy. There are only two more performances in San Antonio, so get thee to the Tobin immediately — before Hedwig heads (or heds?) to its next stop.
