San Anto Zine Fest Fundraiser Pays Tribute to Legendary Mexican Singer Juan Gabriel

It was just over a year ago that legions of fans (devotees really) mourned the death of beloved Mexican singer-songwriter and pop-culture icon Juan Gabriel. However, his voice, his passion, his quirky and vibrant style, his penetrating charisma, and the incredible music he made in his 45-year career continue to captivate. At Thursday’s Juan Gabriel Night, which is a fundraiser for the forthcoming San Anto Zine Fest (scheduled for October 7 at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center), “el divo de Juárez” will take center stage, via a screening of a 1990 performance at Mexico City’s Palacio de Bellas Artes. Show-goers are encouraged to dress up in their loudest (perhaps sequined) attire for the occasion, which will also feature drag performances by Pancho Panza and SirGio, cumbia selections spun by DJ Heavyflow of Chulita Vinyl Club, and bebidas to quench your thirst.
