When was the last time you wrote something by hand? Something that wasn’t a scathing note left on the windshield of a terribly parked car or a reminder to yourself to buy dog food?
If you can’t remember a time, please reach down into your technology-dependent, text message-loving heart and try to recall the satisfying feeling of professing your love to your sweetheart by pushing a pen across paper.
It gives you the warm-and-fuzzies, doesn’t it?
This Valentine’s Day, the Briscoe Western Art Museum and San Antonio B-Cycle are encouraging everyone to “spread the love downtown” with their Pony Express Love Letters.
From February 1 to February 12, the Briscoe is inviting local lovebirds to come in and compose handwritten sentiments for their valentines. It’s probably a good idea to brush up on your cursive and reread your collection of Shakespeare’s sonnets beforehand to get you in the mood. There will also be books about love and poetry, and romantic Mad Libs available to inspire you to embrace your inner sap.
The valentines will be hand-delivered for free by B-Cycle riders on February 13. Unfortunately, if your beau lives outside of downtown, your letter will not be delivered by a bicycling Cupid. The Briscoe, however, is happy to mail those letters that are addressed to recipients living outside of B-Cycle’s boundaries, including out-of-state lovers.
The honey (or honeys, if that’s your style) who receives your Pony Express-delivered letter will receive discounted passes for the Briscoe and for B-Cycle. It’s cheesy correspondence and a gift, all wrapped in one!
Show your sweetie you care this Valentine’s Day by stopping in during the Briscoe's regular hours. Admission is $8- to $10. For more details, click here.
