Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: A Christmas Story

A Christmas Story

The 1983 box-office sleeper A Christmas Story now boasts such a following that the 19th-century Victorian home used in the film has been restored as a museum that stays open year-round — thanks in no small part to a gift shop that sells leg lamps (in multiple sizes and variations), decoder rings, bars of Lifebuoy soap (perfect for the potty-mouth in your life), and Daisy Red Ryder Range Model Air Rifle BB Guns. Set in 1938 and based on Jean Shepherd’s book of short stories In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash, the tale orbits around Ralphie Parker, a bespectacled kid pining for a dangerous present “with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time.” Adapted for the stage in 2000 by Philip Grecian, the play lights up the Woodlawn’s holiday season under the direction of Greg Hinojosa. $15-$23; 3pm Sun, Nov 25; Woodlawn Theatre, 1920 Fredericksburg, (210) 738-1117, woodlawntheatre.com.
