Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: Diana Ross

Diana Ross

Rising to prominence as the lead vocalist of the pioneering Motown trio the Supremes, Detroit native Diana Ross counts a Guinness World Record for Most Successful Singer of All Time (1993), a Kennedy Center Honors (2007), and a Lifetime Achievement Grammy (2012) among her accomplishments. Just after launching a solo career in 1970, Ross earned a Best Actress nomination for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lady Sings The Blues. The empowering dance anthem “I’m Coming Out,” the campy Michael Jackson-penned “Muscles,” and the touching Marvin Gaye tribute “Missing You” are among the gems afforded by a landmark ’80s-era $20 million RCA contract. The icon plays the Majestic as part of a string of dates rumored to be leading up to a new album and world tour. Sold out ($129-$588 at stubhub.com and concertticketcenter.com); 8pm Tue, Jan 29; The Majestic Theatre, 224 E Houston, (210) 226-3333, majesticempire.com.
