“Famously bipolar” Los Angeles-based violinist/vocalist Emilie Autumn proved her classical chops before venturing into “Victoriandustrial” territory — a genre marked by shredding violin solos, harpsichord arrangements, and vocal stylings in the vein of Tori Amos set to electronic beats. Since coming into her own with the 2003 fantasy-rock album Enchant, Autumn has collaborated with Courtney Love, released a handful of albums, published The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls (a memoir based on a diary she scrawled in red crayon while institutionalized), and starred as The Painted Doll in the experimental horror film The Devil’s Carnival.
