Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: PechaKucha Night Vol. 8

Devised in 2003 by Tokyo-based architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham as a platform for young designers to network and show their work, PechaKucha Nights (which are named after the Japanese term for the sound of “chit-chat”) follow a “20x20” format (20 images are shown and explained for 20 seconds each). While the idea of watching a series of timed slideshows may not sound all that thrilling, PechaKucha Nights are anything but boring (and there’s beer). In the 2007 Wired article “PechaKucha: Get to the PowerPoint in 20 Slides Then Sit the Hell Down,” Daniel H. Pink wrote, “The result, in the hands of masters of the form, combines business meeting and poetry slam to transform corporate cliché into surprisingly compelling beat-the-clock performance art.” Organized by the Architecture Foundation of San Antonio, the eighth installment of the San Antonio chapter features presentations by Jeff DeCuir (artist/musician), Kelly Lyons (biologist), Tim McDiarmid (personal chef), Maria Palma (chef), Chris Sauter (artist), Ansen Seale (artist), Jamie Stockwell (journalist), and Mark Stoeltje (advocate) in a program emceed by Emmy-winning news anchor Randy Beamer. $5 donation at the door; 7:30pm Mon, Nov 5; Center for Architecture - AIA San Antonio, 200 E Grayson, (210) 226-4979, Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here:
