I may not know the difference between a “foul” and “technical foul,” but I do know the difference between when something is “free” and something is “technically free.” Valero offering free coffee during the Spurs playoffs is definitely “free.”
The morning after every Spurs playoff game win, participating Valero and Corner Stores in San Antonio are offering one free premium cup of coffee or cappuccino between 5 a.m. - 10 a.m. It doesn’t matter if they win on the road or at home; if they win, you win a free cup of coffee.
This offer is a San Antonio tradition. According to Bill Day, Valero’s Vice President of Communication, they’ve done this promotion for the past 8 years, and probably longer.
“The Spurs are very popular in San Antonio. Valero not only sponsors them, we are part owner of the Spurs. For us, it [free coffee] helps San Antonio celebrate.”
Unfortunately for the Spurs, they now even have more pressure to them to win playoff games. Not only do want them to take home the trophy, we want our free coffee.
