Slab Cinema’s worthy ode to the work of Wes Anderson rolls on this summer with a showing of the director’s 2007 film
The Darjeeling Limited, arguably his most emotionally immediate and raw outing.
The movie, Anderson’s fifth feature, follows three brothers, played by Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody and Owen Wilson, as they meet up in India, ostensibly to reconnect with one another a year after their father’s funeral, where they had last convened.
But Francis, played by Wilson, has ulterior motives and secretly plans to drag his brothers to see their estranged mother, who’s staying at a convent. In typical Wes Anderson fashion, the film satisfies in part because of the characters’ dazzling imperfections and endearing idiosyncrasies.
Free, Fri July 6, 8pm, Hays Street Bridge, (210) 212-9373, wesandersonfilmfestival.com.
