Called the “the end result of humanity self-indulged to the point of soul obliteration” by Glasstire, the masked character embodied by performance artist Christie Blizard has been popping up in Texas and beyond, including a 2018 trip to Burning Man to get some extra mind-bending performance footage. Often seen dancing with a puppet-version of French philosopher Jean-François Lyotard, Blizard appears decked out in spandex, athleisure, wacky wigs and an ever-present mask everywhere from parking lots to EDM fests, often accompanied by a sparkling sedan with gull-wing doors or her own personal Moog/mixer synth rig. Previously featured in Artpace’s Summer 2017 International Artist-In-Residence Program, Blizard returns to the gallery this month for a free rooftop performance called “The inhabiters.” If you’re looking for a surreal, unique way to spend a summer evening, this is it.
