AMuse-BOUCHE

We’re heavy into wine/food/music festival season, and you can stretch your stomach for the upcoming New World Wine & Food Festival and Arts & Eats this weekend at Market Square, where the San Antonio Restaurant Association will be hosting the 32nd Annual Taste of San Antonio Expo. Make sure you stop by the booths for Ma Harper’s N’Awlin’s Creole Kitchen, and check with Delicious Tamales to see if they’re sampling their new veggie versions. The live-entertainment schedule reads like a citywide talent show, with blues, jazz, jam, mariachis, break dancers, poets, and Christian rock, sometimes within minutes of each other. Chefs face off at the American Culinary Federation’s Lone Star Challenge at Sunset Station Tuesday, which also hosts a culinary-arts symposium for local high-school students. And to wash it all down, renowned cowboy chef, James Beard House alum, and grill master Tom Perini will be the star of the high-end ($200 and up) Showcase Dinner Wednesday at Pearl Brewery, hosted by Current house critic Ron Bechtol. The weekend Expo is kid-friendly and free (food and drinks are inexpensive, compared to, e.g., Fiesta). Noon-10 p.m. Saturday, noon-9 p.m. Sunday. More info at tasteofsanantonio.com.
