Hands-On Knife Skills

A Hands-On Knife Skills class will take place Thursday, August 5, 10am-12:30pm, at the Central Market Cooking School. Will Thornton of St. Philip's College will show students how to slice, dice, mince, julienne, and chiffonnade like a professional. A light meal will be served. Bring a knife from home or purchase a specially priced knife from the school. $45. Info: 822-9933.


Wine Olympics, Round 5

The San Antonio Wine Olympics continues through August with a Chardonnay contest at Milano's Italiano Ristorante, 11838 Wurzbach, on Thursday, August 5 from 7-9pm. Viogniers compete on Wednesday, August 11 from 7-9pm at Boardwalk Bistro, 4011 Broadway.

Sponsored by SA's National Wine Unclub and Fine Spirits Emporium, the Wine Olympics selects a type of wine each week for the double-blind tests. Participants - a panel of judges and the audience - sample various nations' offerings and rank them, awarding gold, silver, and bronze medals.

The Central Market Cooking School will feature Chef Terry Conlan on Wednesday, August 11, 6:30-9pm. Menu will include chilled lemon bisque, spinach salad w. walnuts, feta cheese & black currant/balsamic vinaigrette, grilled lamb t-bone w. roasted tomato tzatziki & Greek potato salad, lemon-marinated pork & shrimp kebabs w. orzo cakes, basil oil & tomato tartare, grilled beef tenderloin w. salsa verde & Greek grilled vegetables, and pistachio cakes w. chocolate sauce & sandied orange. $55.
