It's time for a beer tour.
To end their #30DaysofDowntown initiative,
Centro San Antonio is bringing in the big, hoppy guns. The group will host a Urban Spaces Tour highlighting the rich and sudsy history of San Antonio brewing. "Hops & History" will be led by a team of beer connoisseurs including
Travis Poling (author of
Beers Across Texas: A Guide to the Brews and Brewers of the Lone Star State and co-author of the upcoming
San Antonio Beer: Alamo City History By The Pint) and the beer nerds at
GS 1221 on September 30.
Double-decker busses will be the transport of choice as the tour hops along from
Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery (where all the tours start) to
Alamo Beer Company,
Blue Star Brewing Company,
Freetail Brewing Company, and Lone Star Brewery (Aqualand Development). Hour-long tours are available at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. and are limited to just under 50 attendees for each time slot.
Tickets to the tour start out at $60 for Centro San Antonio members, $75 for non-members, and $35 for military, LOOP and Geekdom members. Punny "6-packs" are available for groups of six people at $300.
Plenty of beer samples and you don't have to drive between breweries while doing so? Sounds like a win-win to me.
