Chef Cariño Cortez Is Teaching a Tamal-Making Class for Kiddos

Start 'em young and help your kiddos perfect their masa spreading technique during this year's kid's tamalada at Pico de Gallo.

Hosted by chef Cariño Cortez of Viva Villa Taqueria, the December 16 class will feature storybook reading, a tamale lesson, tamales and hot chocolate to eat during class and tamales to take home. The class is recommended for kids 5 and up.

"I started to put on the kid's workshops because I thought it was really important to pass down our cultural traditions that make our Hispanic heritage unique," said Cortez about the workshops via email. "Kids, by far, are my favorite to teach, their excitement to come to the workshop and enthusiasm to learn is so fun to see, I feel like I end up having a blast also."

The class runs 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 16. Tickets, $27.03 per child, are available through eventbrite.com.
