Thursday, Aug. 1: Chef Joanne Chang, owner of Flour in Boston, will lead a demonstration at the Central Market Cooking School on savory and sweet treats including gougeres, scallion pancakes, chicken pot pie, bittersweet chocolate terrine and maple-apple upside down cake. Saturday, Aug. 3: Cutthroat Culinary, a self-described “way to bring together rogue outlaw chefs,” hosts the inaugural event of its SA-based Black and White Knife Club. Choose between smoked tongue, sweetbreads, buffalo burgers, turkey confit, Southside brisket sandwich or Asian-style pork with homemade kettle chips. $7 per ticket (choice of one entree), 5pm-midnight, 6020 S Flores.

Saturday, Aug. 3: What’s better than finishing a race and rehydrating with cold beer? Nothing, that’s what. The Battle for Mac Park is the second race in the Alamo City Marathon Challenge. Each 8K or 16K race includes music, food and Alamo Beer. Sunday, Aug. 4: So you tried your hand at gardening and now you’ve got a surplus of berries, peaches, tomatoes or what have you? Try canning.
